Medical:
The City of Greenbelt has a new program to offer savings on prescription drugs to residents who are without health insurance, a traditional benefits plan, or have prescriptions that are not covered by insurance. The card is free to all Greenbelt residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.

Residents may also pick up a card at the following locations: Greenbelt Library, Greenbelt Municipal Center, GHI business office, Greenbelt Community Center, Greenbrier Business office, Greenbelt Pool.

Other:
Greenbelt CARES (301-345-6660) is a community based, family oriented counseling program focused on developing positive growth and understanding for all family members. All counseling services are free of charge and available to residents of Greenbelt and families in surrounding communities on an appointment basis. Family counseling sessions are held at the CARES Family Clinic every Wednesday evening.
Greenbelt CARES offers services including:
- Substance Abuse resources and Drug addiction help
- Family and Individual Counseling
- Informational videos (parenting, homework, school problems etc.)
- Lists of organizational support and online resources for families or individuals dealing with divorce, domestic abuse, safety, and youth services etc.
- Sources of online education
- Free online mental health screening
CARES also maintains a database of area resources and services such as low-cost health care, support groups, homelessness prevention, and support for victims of violent crime. Please call with any questions or to be matched with resources that can benefit you.
Prince George’s Memorial Library provides several links promoting health and well-being through its website including The Butterfly Project – a dedicated workforce development project at the Fairmount Heights Branch Library specifically for young Black and Brown trans women, who are among the most at-risk people in our community. The Butterfly Project fosters a respectful, non-judgmental space to help young women blossom at their own pace in a safe environment.
Food insecurity:
There is a free produce distribution (weather permitting) on the 3rd Thursday of each month in the lower parking lot at the Municipal Center – 25 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD – from 1-3:00 pm. No registration needed. Please pop your trunk as you approach the distribution site.
